Kenya’s AFCON dreams dim after loss to Tanzania

Kenya’s U17 football team suffered a setback in their quest for AFCON qualification after losing 1-0 to Tanzania. They must now beat Uganda to stay in the race.

Kenya’s under-17 football team faces an uphill task to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-0 loss to Tanzania in Kampala.

Juma Sagwe’s 19th-minute goal was enough to secure Tanzania's victory, leaving Kenya in third place in Group A. Despite dominating possession in the second half, Kenya failed to break through a resolute Tanzanian defence.

To keep their qualification hopes alive, Kenya must defeat Uganda in their final group match on Saturday, 21 December, to reach the semi-finals. The 2025 U17 AFCON will be hosted in Morocco, with seven nations already confirmed.
